About Jim Wojno

Jim Wojno is a photographer based in Lincoln, Massachusetts and is a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon and Northwestern Universities. Born in Ohio, he painted landscapes during early education, which included a rich exposure to art, classical music, and architecture. The Impressionist painters are among his favorites. When Wojno’s family moved to Arizona in 1964, he discovered the extreme variety and beauty of the American West, especially the deserts and canyons. He learned and studied landscape photography and was influenced by the f/64 group of photographers. He also cultivated an avid interest in classical music and Impressionism which remain major sources of inspiration. Wojno was fortunate to attend one of the last Ansel Adams Photographic Workshops in Carmel, California in 1982. He was a member of The Friends of Photography in Carmel, CA. Wojno has also attended workshops with photographers, such as Joel Meyerowitz, Jerry Uelsmann, and John Szarkowski.
Wojno's work focuses on landscapes of the American Southwest, coastal New England, Hawaii, Italy, and Patagonia. Often an architectural element is used for framing and dimensionality. Sometimes a composition is found within a larger view, or a slightly abstract interpretation is made, mixing reality with the dreamlike.
Wojno has exhibited in the Boston area and on Cape Cod, has won several awards, and produced a series of multimedia presentations of his work.
"Going to the unspoiled realm of untouched nature brings me to a welcomed silence, renewal, mystery, and awareness of a great life giving spirit. I make photographs not to record a scene but to compose an impression that will mentally and viscerally translate the dimensionality and essence of what I see into a 2-dimensional photograph. As for what the images may or may not signify, I leave that to your imagination."
